Little wet bags

Image
Wet bags are very handy for all kinds of things and our little wet bags are no exception. While not big enough to store swimming togs or more than one cloth nappy, there are quite a few other uses for them. Little wet bags If you use cloth menstrual pads , menstrual cups  or even washable breast pads  then it can be really handy to have some kind of waterproof bag or container to store them in. Ideally you want something fairly small, so that it can be carried in your bag discreetly, but big enough to hold one or two pads. Our little wet bags are ideal for this, as they are just the right size to fit in two or three menstrual pads or pairs of breast pads. They can be folded down around a menstrual cup and they are small enough to slip in your bag. With their choice of pretty prints and colours, then even if someone does spot it, it won’t be obvious what you’re carrying inside. Travelling I recently discovered that our little wet bags are a great companion when traveling. If...

What's the point of pre-folds?

Image
There are so many different types and brands of cloth nappies on the market, that you might be forgiven for not considering humble pre-folds. These rectangular cotton (although you can also get bamboo) nappies are one of the simplest and easy to use nappy styles that are available and you might find that they’re just what you’re missing from your cloth nappy experience. What are pre-folds? If you haven’t used pre-folds before, then you might be put off by the very idea of them. These simple cotton nappies that just sit, folded in three in a nappy cover, before being fastened around your baby don’t really look like the height of modern cloth nappy technology. Let’s face it, they’re not. Usually made from just cotton, (although we do also stock lovely, soft, absorbent ones made from bamboo) these nappies aren’t made with any newly discovered fabric, or with heaps of unusual and ground breaking features. But actually, that’s why they are such...

Nappies for Emergency kits

Image
Wondering about nappies for emergency kits? If disaster strikes, will you be ready? Will you have enough nappies on hand? What nappies to choose If a natural disaster strikes then you might well need to turn to an emergency kit, so it’s always good to be prepared and set one up. But what about nappies for emergency kits? The obvious choice would be to have disposables on hand, after all you many not be able to wash easily. There are a couple of problems with this though, and having a few cloth on hand too might not be a bad idea. Disposable nappies are sized, so you might have to always check that you update the sizes as your baby grows. You may not have services for a while, and disposable nappies could sit around smelling for days before being taken away. Disposable nappies may run out if you are unable to get to shops for a while or if supplies can’t get through to the shops. Washing may not be possible if you are using cloth. In a stressful situation, you may want to go...

Why you should always rinse your nappies

Image
As a rule, I don’t usually say you must do this, or you mustn’t do that when it comes to cloth nappies. Of course there is always an exception to this rule, which is why I’m going to tell you why you should always rinse your nappies before you wash them. Why rinse your nappies When you are laundering your nappies, you may wonder why you would bother to rinse them, after all they’re being washed in the machine, but there are a couple of good reasons why you should always rinse your nappies. Unlike most items that you wash in your machine, cloth nappies are generally soaked through when they go into the machine. If you stop for a minute and think about what they’re soaked with… mmm nice. If you don’t rinse them before washing them, then the nappies already have all of that lovely stuff in them, and swishing around the washing machine while you’re trying to get them clean. If you rinse your nappies before you put them through a full wash cycl...
