If you’re looking for a reusable sanitary product, then a menstrual cup is a great choice. Comfortable, easy to use and reliable.

What is a menstrual cup

If you haven’t seen or heard of a menstrual cup before, then you might be wondering what on earth one is. To put it simply they are a soft cup made from medical grade silicone. This is then worn in the vagina during your period.

Unlike tampons, menstrual cups are not absorbent. This means they don’t soak up your bodies natural lubricants, and won’t dry you out. To use you simply insert and then empty into the toilet at intervals during the day. You can rinse them out and then reinsert them.

You want me to put what where?!

When you first see a menstrual cup, you might be put off by the size or the idea of inserting it into yourself. In reality, though, they are surprisingly comfortable once you have them in. The cups are soft which means that you can fold them, in order to insert and then they ‘pop’ open once inside.

Once in you shouldn’t be able to feel them. They usually sit lower than a tampon. Some people find that they prefer to cut off the stem, as you shouldn’t be able to feel this once it’s in. To remove you break the seal and gently pull it out.

Three sizes

These cups come in three sizes. Small, which if for women under 30 who haven’t had a vaginal birth. Or Large which is for women over 30 or those that have given birth vaginally. (Because, sadly, as we all know, having babies and getting older doesn’t do much for our muscle tone down there.)

There’s isn’t a huge difference in size between the large and the small, but those few extra mm make all the difference. We also now have a mini cup for younger women, which is smaller again.

  • Teen diameter 39 mm diameter, 57 mm high with stem, 43 mm without stem; volume 18 ml
  • Small diameter 40 mm; length 70 mm high with stem; 45 mm without stem; volume 25 ml
  • Large diameter 45 mm; length 70 mm high with stem; 50 mm without stem; volume 30 ml

Entry-level menstrual cup

This particular cup is an entry-level menstrual cup, it is made from medical grade silicone. The mould leaves a seam on the outside of the cup. This should not affect comfort or durability of the menstrual cup.

It arrived in a sealed courier bag however the actual packaging itself was ripped open which was a bit of a let down. Considering what i ordered i wld hate to think it was pre used?. Other than that the product itself is great.

I found it a bit difficult trying to find the correct way to fold it for insertion. As with anything new product it takes practice to get use to it.

It looks good but I am a bit nervous about using it. The first 2 times it didn’t work well. So I gave up until next time.

Have being trying to use this with not much luck so far. I’m not sure what I’m doing wrong but it’s not comfortable and still finding it is leaking. I need to keep trying to get it in the right position.

Product is as photo and description, but packaging wasn’t done well. Box was damaged and inside product was exposed 🙁 Since this is very personal use, it would have been better if packed more hygienic. Having measurements details in online description will be also good ( I had to email separately to ask) as everyone has different height of cervix so some may be little uncomfortable to use. Heres detail for someone who thinking of getting size1: diameter 47mm, 25mm slide, 25ml volume as per box. body length 5cm, stem 2.5cm. Stem bit can be cut if length is too long for your cervix.

I’m new to this and still working out how to make it comfortable and feel confident, but I think with practice it’ll be great.

I purchased the Large as recommended but have had real difficulty with it. (Im 34 with no children) Trouble inserting, didn’t unfold once in, and painful removal. I have just ordered a Small, hoping this will work 🙂

I have compared this cup to another one I brought that was a little more expensive and this one is quite thick in comparison and not as soft.

The rim is pretty thick, so doesnt fold down very small which makes it slightly uncomfortable to insert. First time it didnt fully unfold & was hard to get out. Tried again & seems better, although not tried to change it yet. Bought a cheap one to see if i liked it, will prob upgrade to a more expensive one next time in hope that rim is smaller therefore making it more comfortable. Recomend as a way to see if menstrual cups are for you.
