One of the main issues with hanging modern cloth nappies on the washing line is that the weight of the nappy can stretch the elastics.  Although it’s unlikely that the way that you hang your nappies on the line will ruin the elastics on their own, but with the stress that the nappies are under in daily use, it certainly helps to make sure that they last as long as possible.

Many people prefer to hang their nappies on the washing line along the side of the cloth nappy.  This puts less stress on the leg elastics as they are not taking the full weight of the cloth nappy once they are on the line.  The back elastics still have stress, but as the nappy is side ways, then there is less weight on it.

The only way to ensure that there is no stress on any of the elastics is to fold the nappy in half and hang it over the line.  The main disadvantage with this is that some of fabric of the nappy will be hidden underneath the nappy.

If you do decide to hang your nappies like this, then try to ensure that the inner of the nappy is on the outer most side.  This will help both with drying, and will also help to ensure that the sunshine can remove any stains that are on the fabric.

So there you have it, the options for hanging your modern cloth nappies on the washing line. Really it’s down to personal choice as to which you consider to be the best way to hang modern cloth nappies on the washing line, but these are some things to consider.  As a final note, I would personally recommend that you use spring clothes pegs to attach the nappies to the line, as pegs that are pushed onto the cloth nappies could damage the laminate fabric.
