About us

All about us. Welcome to Nappyneedz.

Nappyneedz was set up in 2010 by me, Kelly, in an attempt to bring affordable and quality cloth nappies to New Zealand parents.  I first started using cloth nappies on my oldest son, when he was born in 2006. After this, I worked for a time as a cloth nappy adviser.  I then went on to creating and sewing my own nappies. I wanted to be able to share my knowledge and information about cloth nappies with other parents; Nappyneedz was born.

About Nappyneedz

Here at nappyneedz, we believe in offering reasonably priced, but reliable cloth nappies. We also offer great cloth nappy advice and information.  We know lots about cloth nappies that we’d love to share with you.  Our dinky nappy has been designed and created by me, based on what I know works well.  By the time that nappyneedz was born, our family had increased to three children, and then in 2012, we had a fourth baby. We have had plenty of opportunities to try out our cloth nappies. Nappyneedz is also the home of Ecobots cloth nappies, a brand with over 15 years on the New Zealand market.

The nappyneedz team

Value for money

These days there are many many cloth nappy options on the market, but finding one that works well without breaking the bank can be a challenge.  We aim to offer nappies that are a reasonable price, but that have had a thoughtful and thorough design process in their creation.  We back up all of our sales with solid after-sales service. That means that we can help make sure that you can make the right choice before you buy and have assistance troubleshooting any problems later, should they occur. Check out our FAQ page to get started.

New Zealand Cloth Nappies

We are based in the South Island, just outside of Dunedin, which is where we offer our first at-home advice service. We are slowly building upon this, with advisors based in other areas being added all the time.  If you do not live in the Dunedin area, then please feel free to fill in our online advice form here.  If you want to know anything else about us or about cloth nappies, then please let me know.

  1. Hi I have just tried to make a small order with you but my card failed at the payment stage. The message said my card was encrypted. I don’t understand the message as I use this card for any online purchases I make. Can you help me please

  2. Hey Thanks Kelly.. found yr website thru a search engine. Looking forward to trying yr lovely pads & liners. Plus yr prices are really Affordable !!

  3. Hi – I live in Otahuhu, Auckland. How soon can I get these pads if I order today, keeping our COVID-19 restrictions in mind, please? thanks.

    1. Hi Linda

Thanks for getting in touch. We are sending orders out every day. Our courier is usually overnight to non-rural addresses. At the moment, some packages are still getting through overnight, but others are taking slightly longer due to volume. I can’t guarantee how quickly something will reach you, but we will do our best to get it to you asap.

      Thanks

      Kelly

  4. hi there, can I have some info on your fabrics please? Where your bamboo and cotton fabrics are from and are they from a sustainable source? Thanks!

    1. Our cotton products and some of our bamboo products are manufactured in Pakistan. Most other products are manufactured in China. As I understand it, all bamboo is currently grown in China. If you need specific information on specific products let me know and I can help further. Thanks.

    2. Hiya, your sanitary pads look great and so affordable. Do you have any info around how ethical your product is? The factories they are made in are the workers paid fairly etc?
      Thanks Kate

      1. We have been working closely with the company who manufactures our pads for around nine years now. We have not had any issues with them during this time and are satisfied that the workers have good conditions and pay. I haven’t actually been out to visit the factory yet, but plan to in the future. Thanks

  5. I want to order a Bamboo teen starter reusable menstrual pack but i would like to change the size of the cup (5 PETTITE bamboo pads + 1 menstrual cup SIZE LARGE ). Is the same price ? (24nzd?) THANKS 🙂

  6. Hi there
    Hi Kelly
I am wondering if you have made the night nappies/ shorts for older children yet?
My four year old is in night nappies and I would love to be able to get her a product from you as there doesn’t seem to be anything else available that isn’t disposable. She is so ashamed of her disposable nappy and hides it.

  7. Good evening, will you be making / getting the night time boxer/pants for older children again? I hate having to use disposable pull ups on my 6 yr old when my 3 yr old is in full time cloth.
    Thanks 🙂

  8. Hi there,

I’m a little new to nappies and everything as I’m currently expecting for first child. So your prefolds, they would work as a nappy on their own technically?

Also one of your products, Infant Organic Cotton Nappies, are they unbleached?

    Cheers!

    1. Hi Esther
You would usually need a cover over the top of the prefolds, as they are not waterproof, you don’t need anything else though.
Our organic nappies are all unbleached.
      Thanks
      Kelly

  9. Hello! We are travelling to New Zealand from Europe with our 6 Months old baby, arriving in Auckland on March 7 and driving to Christchurch (7 Week holiday). We use cloth nappies at home (cotton flat musselins and PUL covers), and we would like to know where we could buy second hand cotton flats, so we wouldn’t need to bring our own, as it would take a lot of place in the bags… I hope you can help us, otherwise we will have to use the “regular” horrible plastic nappies… best regards! 10. Hi there
I am a returning customer that is now pregnant and wanting to know a little about the cloth nappies. So I’ve been looking at getting the Dinky all you need cloth nappy pack with the all you need prefold pack… would this be ok to use for a newborn? Also can I buy a type of booster alongside these to add extra absorbency? Any guidance would be much appreciated.

    Thank you

    1. HI
Yes, these are fine to use from newborn but can be a little bulky. If you wanted something a little trimmer for the early days, then the newborn prefolds are a good choice. You can then use these as boosters in the dinky nappies later. I would recommend our hemp boosters for nights in the dinky nappies, but you won’t need these until your baby is a little older usually.

      1. Thanks for your reply. Could you assume appx.date of getting bamboo flat?Otherwise, Ill order the rest of my list soon. My baby due is on the way soon and Id like to get nappies ready. Thanks!

  11. Hi there, when well you be getting the hemp boosters in? It says you’re out of stock but I’m keen to but some. Thanks 🙂

  12. Hi i am looking for some night time nappy pants for my 4 year old that are absorbent enough not to wet the bed. She is a very heavy sleeper and doesn’t get up for toilet, even Alarm doesn’t wake Her. I have had to wash her sheets nearly everyday.

  13. hi just wondering. i have an elderly morher who is suffering from incontinence with the odd rear end accident. what would u reccommend for nights. would it be nighttime liner under underwear. awaiting your reply.
    thank you

    1. Hi Rachel
Our basic pads are made of PUL (polyurethane laminate) for the backing fabric, two layers (one in the case of the liners) of microfibre and one layer of microfleece on top. The minky and bamboo pads are made of a laminated minky fabric, one layer of microfibre, one layer of bamboo fleece fabric and one layer of charcoal bamboo. Hope that helps.
      Thanks
      Kelly

      1. Hi Anna, we do have a couple of New Zealand made nappies, but most of our nappies are made overseas. Either in China or Pakistan. Although they are made overseas, we work closely with the factories and are happy with their practices.

  14. Hi,

I have a 4mth old boy and recently have converted to cloth nappies. Looking at all the options plus reusable sanitary options (my friends are interested too if they work out well)

Do you have a group meeting soon so I can look at all your fabulous products . I live in Dunedin.

    Thanks D
