A nappy cover that fits

A nappy cover, is a nappy cover, isn’t it? How important is a nappy cover that fits? Not that just fits ok, but fits really really well? Why is a sized cover better than a one size fits all cover? Does it really matter?

Why fit matters

It makes sense, the better the fit of your cloth nappy, the more effective it’s going to be. A nappy cover that gapes and has gaps all over it, especially in the key ‘danger zones’ like the legs and back, isn’t going to work as well as one that is snug and fits well. But how important is it to get it really right? Actually it makes a huge difference, just a few little differences in features that help to give a really good fit, can be the difference between a cloth nappy that works really well and dealing with a poo-splosion.

There’s a bit more to this than just size though. Obviously you want the right size cover for your little one, but having a few extra features, such as an elasticated waist to stop things leaking up the back and double gussets at the leg to give a good fit there, really can make a world of difference. These key features help the cover to fit a wider range of baby body sizes than covers that don’t have double leg gussets, or firmly elasticated waists.

Sized nappy covers

A sized nappy cover is one that comes in different sizes, that you change as your baby grows. Ecobots covers are like this, with premature, newborn, small, medium, large, extra large and even extra extra large being available. Having this range of sizes means that you are far more likely to get a nappy cover that fits. Although one size fits most covers are handy because they can be adjusted to fit a range of different sizes, but this means that you are less likely to get a really good fit. It is possible to get a good fit with a one size cover, but for some babies, it’s never going to be quite right, particularly when they are and between adjustment sizes.

Using a cover that fits

For cloth nappies like ecobots, which are prefolds with a separate cover, finding the right cover, which fits well without any gaps or areas that sag, is key to having a cloth nappy that doesn’t leak. Our covers are tried, tested and loved by thousands of kiwi parents. Using our fab covers can make all the difference to your cloth nappy experience. you can find them here.
